Daniel Farke has little to complain about as new Leeds reveal emerges after FA charge

Daniel Farke is set to face a touchline ban following his recent red card against Manchester City.

The German was sent off after Leeds lost 1-0 to the Citizens, as he went to confront referee Peter Bankes for not adding any additional time due to City’s time-wasting antics.

During that fixture, the Whites were beginning to push for the equaliser in the closing moments of the game, but to no success.

While frustrations with time-wasting may be a valid reason to complain, a new reveal about Leeds this season may leave Farke with little room to do so.

Daniel Farke’s time-wasting concerns may be hypocritical – here’s why

Teams looking to waste time to slow down the game or prevent the opposition from scoring an equalising or winning goal has been part of football for years.

For fans, it does not make for kind viewing, while for those on the touchline, it can be extremely frustrating.

It is no surprise that Farke was unhappy with the referee for not adjusting the added time at Elland Road, as City were clearly delaying the game.

However, the Germans’ concerns may in fact be hypocritical due to the latest data.

According to Opta, Leeds are fifth in the Premier League for delaying the restart of their games, with an average of 30.4 seconds between the stoppage of a match and play resuming.

2ndBrentford32.3
3rdCrystal Palace31.2

5thLeeds30.4

Where do Leeds waste the most time?

When it comes to the ball going out of play, Leeds are quite quick at restarting matches from corners. However, throw-ins present a different story.

The Whites take the third-longest time to get the ball back into the game when taking throw-ins.

Their delay of 20.6 seconds is only bettered by Brentford (21.9 seconds) and Sunderland (23 seconds).

So while Farke has been suspended for the FA Cup tie against Norwich, he will have to look in the mirror going forward before he starts to complain about delays in matches.

If he is truly annoyed by these delay tactics, his own Leeds side are not entirely innocent themselves, as shown by the statistics.
