Daniel Farke has found perfect Gabriel Gudmundsson replacement at Leeds and it won’t cost a penny

Leeds United have had a quiet winter transfer window so far with Daniel Farke making very few moves in the market.

Facundo Buonanotte joined Leeds on loan from Brighton earlier this month, but that is the only senior signing the Whites have made.

To make matters worse, the Elland Road outfit have been suffering with injury issues in recent weeks, with Gabriel Gudmundsson one of those set for a spell on the sidelines.

Gudmundsson is likely to miss two games with an adductor strain, but Farke has already found the perfect replacement.

James Justin stuns in draw with Everton

James Justin moved from Leicester City to Leeds over the summer, but had a slow start to life in West Yorkshire.

The full-back didn’t start a single one of his first 10 Premier League games with the Whites before eventually being given the opportunity in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester City.

With Leeds suffering from injury issues in recent weeks, the England international has been far more involved.

Justin was superb as Leeds drew 1-1 with Everton on Monday evening, starting at left-wing back in place of Gudmundsson.

The defender grabbed the opener, making a late run into the box and latching onto a loose ball to finish past Jordan Pickford.

Justin had five shots in total from left-wing back and was a big issue for the Toffees all evening.

James Justin can fill in for Gabriel Gudmundsson

Leeds have been eyeing a backup option for Gudmundsson over the past few weeks, but have not yet made a concrete offer for any left-backs.

With Gudmundsson’s injury only being short-term though, the Whites can more than get away with utilising Justin as his replacement.

James Justin stats

Farke’s side are on the verge of breaching profit and sustainability rules, so they don’t want to waste money on unnecessary signings.

If they can save funds by not bringing in a left-wing back, Leeds could make an improved bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen and bolster their attacking ranks.
