Crazy Weston McKennie footage emerges overnight from USA, it will enrage Leeds United fans

Former Leeds United loanee Weston McKennie was sent off against Mexico on Thursday night and kissed the USA badge during a crazy brawl in a heated clash between the two countries.

The United States secured their place in the CONCACAF Nations League final with a 3-0 victory over Mexico on 15 June. The match was an eventful one, with four red cards in the second half, two for each country.

And one of those players sent off was former Leeds man McKennie, who had his shirt ripped during a scuffle and then proceeded to kiss the badge of his American kit as he walked away while having drinks thrown in his direction. Moments later, the midfielder was sent off following a VAR review and will now miss the final.

You can watch the crazy footage here on Twitter.

At times it seemed as if McKennie didn’t even want to be on a Premier League pitch for Leeds as the club were relegated from the division with the American seemingly doing very little within his power to prevent that outcome.

However, obviously, the fight was always in the Juventus man, just not when it came to Leeds. The footage from the clash between his nation and Mexico shows a whole different character, as six or seven Mexican players surround McKennie at one point, with the 24-year-old standing strong and refusing to back down.

This is infuriating for fans as this level of passion and commitment could have been very useful to the club this season, and perhaps if even just a fraction of what had been shown against Mexico was shown throughout the player’s loan spell, things could have ended differently.

This will only make it easier to see the back of the midfielder following his return to parent club Juventus.
