Charlie Cresswell gives Daniel Farke selection headache at Leeds United after what he did

Leeds United have a long list of players currently away on international duty, one of which is young centre-back Charlie Cresswell.

And the defender has shone for England Under-21s, playing the entire 180 minutes of their meetings with Serbia and Ukraine.

He may have only got the nod alongside Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite due to an injury to Southampton ace Taylor Harwood-Bellis, but the Whites man grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

Cresswell didn’t exactly have much to do in the first encounter with Serbia, with Lee Carsley’s men hammering their opponents 9-1.

But the second clash against Ukraine was a different story, with Cresswell forced into plenty of defending as their opponents ran out narrow 3-2 winners.

It wasn’t, however, only defending that the Leeds youngster was interested in, with the 21-year-old scoring his side’s second goal of the match.

He could have been forgiven for thinking his 89th-minute strike would seal a draw for the Young Lions, but the hosts had other ideas, with Illya Kvasnytsya scoring a 94th-minute winner.

Cresswell can return to Elland Road with his tail up, with the young defender certain to have given his club manager Daniel Farke a lot to think about ahead of the clash with Norwich City on Saturday (21 October).

The centre-back is way back in the pecking order at this moment in time, but that could all change after his fine defeats on the international stage.

Farke will more than likely still rely on the likes of Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Liam Cooper, but the man in the dugout can take a lot of confidence in knowing that Cresswell is more than capable of stepping up if needed.
