Calvert-Lewin could lose Leeds spot after Daniel Farke comments on ‘world-class’ star
Daniel Farke has options at Leeds when it comes to going forward.
Leeds have really stepped up a gear in the last few weeks, with several of the concerns that had emerged already being subdued.
One of the main ones regarded the Whites’ woes in front of goal, having scored just once after four Premier League games.
Since then, Farke’s side have netted five times, and despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring his first Leeds goal in that period, his spot in the starting 11 could already be under threat.

Daniel Farke heaps praise on Joel Piroe
Joel Piroe scored the goals for Leeds in the Championship, but it became evident that they would need to upgrade on the Dutchman upon promotion back to the Premier League.
Since then, the 26-year-old has started just two games, with only 136 minutes played in the Premier League so far this season.
Lukas Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin have both been preferred at Elland Road, and there haven’t been too many disagreements in that regard.
However, after Farke’s latest comments on Piroe, it may only be a matter of time until he forces his way back into the starting 11.

In quotes reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Farke said on Piroe: “For me, the best finisher I’ve ever worked with, and there are some good finishers.
“But if you want to have a player with the ball in front of his feet out of 20 yards, then I would always go for Joel Piroe because he’s an unbelievable finisher and in these terms, really, really world-class.“
Joel Piroe comments are surprising from Daniel Farke
Quite frankly, if Piroe is a “world-class” finisher, it begs the question as to why he has only started two of Leeds’ six games this season, many of which they have struggled in front of goal.
Piroe’s record last season
- 48 appearances in all competitions
- 19 goals scored
- Seven assists
Calvert-Lewin has impressed with his general play, but has shown some frailties when it comes to finishing the chances that fall his way.
Leeds are not going to get too many chances in games, especially against better sides, and if Piroe is rated that highly, it would make sense to start him.
With that said, it remains likely that Calvert-Lewin starts for Leeds against Tottenham, though a failure to find the back of the net could see him drop out after the international break.
