Brenden Aaronson has played final game for Leeds United after what Jesse Marsch said

When Leeds United signed Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg in June 2022, there was a buzz around Elland Road about the young midfielder’s potential.

In the Whites’ last Premier League campaign before facing relegation, the 23-year-old started 28 of their 38 league matches and announced himself on one of the biggest stages.

Although it was clear that Aaronson needed time to acclimatise to the Premier League, he was average under Jesse Marsch, scoring once and assisting three others from midfield.

However, it has been unclear whether the American will return to Elland Road at the end of his current loan spell at Union Berlin, but Marsch’s recent comments say everything that Daniel Farke needs to know.

What did Jesse Marsch say about Brenden Aaronson?

Speaking via the Kickin’ It podcast on Tuesday (20 February), the former Leeds manager replied to a question about his favourite players to train at Thorp Arch.

“I found the challenging players more rewarding, like almost anyone can coach Brenden Aaronson, but the most talented players are ego-driven, they’re self-focused and they’re not as flexible because they know they’re the best player with the highest potential,” he said.

Some may presume that this is a positive comment from Marsch, but reading between the lines, it would suggest that Aaronson would be the last person Farke would want to coach.

With the Championship being one of the most competitive divisions in the world, the midfielder does not possess the grit and determination to fight and battle for the ball in a tough league.

And if Leeds gain promotion to the Premier League this season, the need for that courage and bravery will remain, as the Whites will need to fight to avoid relegation straight back to the Championship.

That is nothing against Leeds or Farke’s style of football but more a continuous trend of promoted teams in the top tier of English football. Aaronson will only get lost.
