Bielsa should give Crysencio Summerville chance to shine for first-team
Leeds United under 23s have performed brilliantly this season and Crysencio Summerville has made a strong case for a first-team chance.
He has been one of the standout performers and is a big reason why the Whites top the Premier League Two Division Two table.
Not only does the winger have four goals in ten appearances but also six assists, which is some return.
He is a tricky player to deal with and under Marcelo Bielsa he could develop into an important player for Leeds.
Chris Powell worked with Summerville at ADO Den Haag and was very impressed with the 19-year-old.
He told the Yorkshire Evening Post, “He’s quite a free spirit out on the wing, in a good way. He’ll excite you, he’s a bag of tricks, there’s some talent there.
“He cared, that was one good trait I felt he had. He was someone who really cared about the game.”
There are few players like that in the senior squad at present, and that is partly due to Bielsa’s strict discipline.
In fact, Raphinha is arguably the only first-team player who could be described as a free spirit.
If Summerville can contribute in a similar manner to the Brazilian then we will have some player on our hands.
It is a massive step up to play in the Premier League but Summerville is proving that he deserves a chance – at least ahead of Ian Poveda and Helder Costa who have disappointed at times this year.
There are ten league games remaining this season and a win against Fulham would practically guarantee survival.
After that we have a brilliant opportunity to blood some youngsters, and Summerville should be top of that list.
We often lack players on the bench capable of changing a game – the Chelsea matched showed that.
Summerville would inject pace and invention into the side and if given the confidence of Bielsa he could start to shine.
Hopefully we get to see the youngster in action sooner rather than later.
