BBC journalist stunned by Leeds United double exit news for Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente

BBC Journalist Jonathan Buchan and Simon Rix of the Kaiser Chiefs have been left amused by Roma’s double swoop for Leeds United duo Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente.

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported (27 June) that Kristensen and Llorente are close to securing switches to Italy with Roma aiming to complete loan deals for the Leeds duo – the latter having spent the second half of last season at Stadio Olimpico on a temporary basis.

And Buchan and Rix were left somewhat perplexed by the links in the latest edition of the BBC Sport podcast ‘Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet,’ (28 June), where they cover all things Leeds.

“Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente in a double swoop to Roma, wow,” Buchan claimed.

Rix then added: “Also Mourinho is interested in (Weston) McKennie right? I don’t really understand what football he has been watching.”

“Well we have seen him lose the plot a bit recently Mourinho, haven’t we, when he was kicking off at the end of the season, maybe he is losing his touch a little bit,” Buchan responded.

“Self-sabotage. I think we would all be quite happy with any deals,” Rix then said.

Careful

Rix and Buchan should be careful these comments don’t come back to bite them.

It is no secret that neither Llorente nor Kristensen will be particularly missed by Leeds fans, but there is no need to laugh the players out of the club. Especially considering the deals are potentially just temporary.

Both players might now excel with Roma, with Llorente of course already having experienced playing in Rome under his belt, and Buchan and Rix would be left regretting their words.

For Leeds right now, the focus should be fully on next season, a new manager and any potential incoming transfers the club can complete once the takeover deal is fully finalised.

Ultimately, the move is a good one for all of those involved. Kristensen and Llorente will get to play European football while Leeds get the players off their books and can focus on improving the squad for the new manager.

In other Leeds United news, a star player has now been left in limbo with his exit delayed.
