Archie Gray irony won’t be lost as Tottenham shining light could relegate Leeds United

Leeds United have had plenty of top-quality players over the years, but those such as Archie Gray could now come back to haunt the Elland Road club.

Gray left the Peacocks in 2024, but now, two years on, he could have a huge say on the rest of Leeds’ season.

The Whites looked set to survive relegation, but over the last few weeks, results have meant they have been pulled back into the dogfight at the bottom of the table.

Daniel Farke’s side are just three points off the drop now, and sports commentator Rob Mullarkey has spotted an irony that could end up sending the Peacocks down.

How Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville can decide Leeds’ future

As an academy product, Gray was a fan favourite at Elland Road as he played a key role in the 2023-2024 season.

Unfortunately, in the end, the midfielder would not be able to push promotion over the line, with the Whites stumbling in the play-off final against Southampton.

That game would ultimately be Gray’s last professional outing in the Leeds kit, joining Tottenham that summer.

While this season has not gone well for the North London club, Gray has stood out as one of their better performers, and that could lift Spurs’ chances of finishing in the bottom three, succumbing the Whites to the drop.

A scenario that has been pointed out by commentator Mullarkey on X.

“It’s perhaps ironic that the performances of Gray, and Summerville for West Ham, could contribute to the relegation of their former employers Leeds United,” he wrote.

However, as Mullarkey points out, Gray will not be the only former Leeds player who could inflict damage.

Crysencio Summerville has found himself in tremendous form for the Hammers, scoring seven goals in his last 10 games.

With both the Dutchman and the Englishman in fine form for their struggling clubs, their performances could be the key to West Ham and Tottenham’s survival and, in doing so, potentially send Leeds down.

Two players who were once so key to the Whites’ hopes of promotion from the Championship could now ironically send them back down.

Why Leeds can still have the final say against Gray and Summerville

Leeds’ remaining fixtures still include both West Ham and Tottenham, although both of those matchups will be away from home.

However, the Whites could put a cork in the form of both Summerville and Gray, plummeting their clubs further below Leeds with a good result.

Interestingly, Leeds’ final game of the season is against the Hammers, so while right now, the possibility of Summerville sending the LS11 outfit down is ironic, there is a reality where he can physically send them down too.

Farke will be hoping Leeds’ Premier League status is already confirmed by the final day of the season, as right now, not many teams would want to play against Summerville in the form he is in.
