Anton Stach surely in line to win Premier League award after stunning Leeds United moment

Anton Stach’s free-kick against Aston Villa has been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award.

The German midfielder curled a superb effort past Emi Martinez during Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Villa back in February.

Stach’s free-kick gave Daniel Farke’s side a first-half lead, before Tammy Abraham scored a late equaliser to deny the Whites all three points.

The Leeds man is now in the running to win the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for February.

Who is Anton Stach up against for Premier League award?

Stach is one of eight players on the shortlist for the February award, alongside the likes of Dominic Solanke, Dominik Szoboszlai and Benjamin Sesko.

Leeds fans can vote for the 27-year-old’s goal before 12:00 GMT on Monday 9 March, with the winner then being announced in the subsequent days.

Stach would be the second Leeds player to win a Premier League award this season, after Dominic Calvert-Lewin was voted as player of the month for December.

The Leeds centre-forward scored six goals in just five games across December, deservedly picking up the accolade.

Anton Stach free-kick deserves award

Stach’s long-range free-kick completely caught out Martinez on the day, and is more than good enough to secure the goal of the month award for February.

Both Villa and Leeds players were lining up, expecting a cross into the 18-yard box, but the German took matters into his own hands and found the back of the net.

There were some other good strikes across the course of the month, most notably Szoboszlai’s strike against Manchester City.

The Liverpool star smashed home a free-kick of his own at Anfield, fizzing an effort past Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the top corner.

However, given the angle and distance of Stach’s strike, it is arguably a harder goal to score and is therefore more deserving of the award.
