Angus Kinnear’s bizzare reason for Leeds exit showcases his lack of understanding
Angus Kinnear has spoken out about his decision to leave Leeds United.
Kinnear’s time at Leeds was certainly mixed, though the general consensus would be that he did more good than bad.
He played a huge role in stabilising Leeds, and ultimately delivered promotion back to the Premier League in his tenure, but then lacked the ideology required to keep them there with the decisions off the pitch.
Kinenar left Leeds to join Everton at the start of the year, and the reasons for his exit show a complete lack of respect for the Whites.

Everton labelled as ‘sleeping giant’ by Angus Kinnear
Leeds have managed fairly well since the exit of Kinnear, and ultimately, there were very few hard feelings about the way in which he left.
However, in an interview since then, he has explained his decision-making and seemingly lacked respect for his former club with his comments.
Via the Toffee TV YouTube channel, he said: “I had a lot of friends at Leeds, dedicated a lot of my life to that, some very happy memories of what we achieved on the pitch last season.
“I was proud to leave them back where I think that club belongs. I think they’re a Premier League club.
“I think the term sleeping giant is used too loosely, but I think when you look at the challenges that Everton have faced and overcome over the last four to five years.
“I thought the opportunity to give them a real solid foundation to build upon was one of the best projects in world football, and I don’t regret that decision at all.”
Leeds are a sleeping giant
Everton, while recent seasons may not have been anything to shout home about, have been a permanent fixture in the Premier League, rarely threatened by the immediate risk of relegation.
Leeds, on the other hand, have spent years and years outside of the top flight, having once boasted the title of European champions.
That, by definition, is a sleeping giant, and for Kinenar to use that as a reason to have joined Everton is nothing short of strange.
Hopefully, Leeds can avoid the drop this season and start building towards a brighter future to showcase to people like Kinnear the true potential of this club.
