Angus Kinnear gifted Leeds United transfer hope for Brentford ace Fabio Carvalho

Angus Kinnear may well be handed a third chance to sign Fabio Carvalho for Leeds United after his father pleaded for a Brentford exit.

The Whites failed in a bid to sign the 22-year-old on loan from Liverpool last season [Daily Mail] after he returned from Merseyside after a spell with RB Leipzig and spent the second half of the season in the Championship with Hull City.

Leeds then returned for the midfielder in the summer after being alerted of his availability but were left with “lots and lots of frustration” as Brentford blew the competition out of the water with a £27.5million bid.

However, the third time could be the charm at Elland Road as his father, Victor, pleaded for his son to leave the Bees in a recently deleted reply on Brentford’s Instagram, as relayed by the Yorkshire Evening Post [27 November].

He said: “Son, you have to leave this club”.

Leeds United should try one more time to sign Fabio Carvalho

While Leeds supporters may be hesitant for Kinnear to approach a player who has twice previously rejected a move to Elland Road, there may not be another opportunity such as this to bring Carvalho to West Yorkshire.

The former Portugal Under-21s international has yet to nail down a regular spot at the Gtech Community Stadium since his big-money move from Anfield, with only two Premier League starts.

His father’s comments indicate how life has panned out for Carvalho in West London and suggests Brentford are not living up to promises that may have been made before the move.

Daniel Farke is eager to bolster the forward line at Elland Road and is planning to secure the signing of Manchester City youngster James McAtee on a loan until the end of the season, but Carvalho would be far and away the more ideal option.

Brentford forward Fabio Carvalho
Fabio Carvalho left Liverpool for Brentford after rejecting Leeds United.

After his exploits with Hull last term, he has already proven capable of immediately becoming a top performer in the Championship, wherein he recorded nine goals and two assists in 20 outings.

Among the current options for the Whites, it is hard to envision McAtee challenging for a starting berth with little first-team experience, whereas Carvalho would provide worthwhile competition to Dan James, Wilfried Gnonto, Manor Solomon and Largie Ramazani.

Furthermore, he can operate behind the striker and provide a much-needed respite to Brenden Aaronson, with no capable deputy for the American in West Yorkshire.

Leeds clearly value Carvalho highly at Elland Road, and having failed twice before, Kinnear cannot pass up this golden opportunity to land a long-term target.
