Angus Kinnear desperate to sign Noel Tornqvist amid concrete Leeds transfer news

Angus Kinnear is evidently desperate to sign Noel Tornqvist after a new Leeds United transfer news emerged.

With the January transfer window opening next week, the Whites hierarchy must decide which positions they should strengthen for the second half of the season if they decide to enter the market at all.

This window will be different as there have been major changes behind the scenes at Elland Road, with Alex Davies promoted to head of recruitment following Jordan Miles’ exit.

Gretar Steinsson has also vacated his role as technical director.

Kinnear, the sporting director-turned-CEO, will still have a great say on transfers, however, if not more, and it is evident.

Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear really want Noel Tornqvist at Elland Road

The West Yorkshire-based club are showing a “serious” interest in signing Noel Tornqvist from Mjallby, according to FotbollDirekt.

Daniel Farke’s side have scouted the goalkeeper on several occasions this season and view him as a target for the January transfer window.

Although there is no evidence of an offer yet, the price has been set at around £1million.

What is interesting is the fact that Leeds’ interest in Tornqvist is not new as they were linked with a move for Swede over a year ago.

It emerged in October 2023 that the Elland Road outfit are keeping tabs on the Mjallby shot-stopper [fotbollskanalen].

Therefore, it is clear that the Championship club’s interest in Tornqvist is not driven by a desperate need to strengthen the goalkeeping department, but rather by an extensive scouting project.

Kinnear and the recruitment team at Thorp Arch have been monitoring the 22-year-old for a while and are now convinced about his abilities.

In that case, chairman Paraag Marathe must sign off on the deal and allow Kinnear to bring Tornqvist to Elland Road.

Leeds could bring in the Sweden Under-21s international with a view to making him their future number one.

However, it remains to be seen what his signing would mean for the futures of Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in the race to sign this player who Declan Rice described as “incredible”.
