Andrea Radrizzani must call for sanctions against Big Six after Klopp dig

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani must call for sanctions against the Big Six after they attempted to break away to form a European Super League.

The Italian has responded brilliantly to the woeful news, first protesting against the project through our players, who wore anti-ESL t-shirts ahead of the Liverpool match.

He has since been vocal online, praising Gary Neville’s comments on the proposal before sharing his own Twitter message.

It read, “Absolutely against the sporting spirit, the dream of millions of fans to conquer the championships on the field, with planning, vision, work.

“It kills dreams of clubs, players and fans. The teams are fans and WE are the keepers of the club.”

He has since ridiculed the idea as “The One Day League”, so it is fair to say he has done more than most owners in publicly condemning the Super League.

There is more work to be done however, as the battle is won but the war is far from over.

The Big Six could easily rejig their plans and come up with another way of ensuring they benefit financially at the cost of others.

They simply have to be sanctioned by the Premier League in order to learn their lesson, and Radrizzani should take the lead by calling for that to happen.

Sam Allardyce did so on Wednesday [BirminghamLive] but a club owner is yet to put forward the idea.

And after Jurgen Klopp disparaged the Whites for our well-meaning actions on Monday, it would be just payback.

Leeds attempted to put up a united front against the proposals by giving the Liverpool squad t-shirts of their own to wear, but Klopp did not like that one bit.

As quoted by ESPN, he said, “I saw there are warm-up shirts, which we will not wear.

“We cannot, but if someone thinks they have to remind us that we have to earn it to play in the Champions League, it’s a joke. A real joke!

“And they put [the shirt] in our dressing room. If it was a Leeds idea, thank you very much. Nobody has to remind us. Maybe they should remind themselves.”

The last line was an unfair dig at a very good idea that most football people would support.

If Liverpool and their co-conspirators are not punished then the least we expect is an apology.

Ultimately, we trust Radrizzani to make the right decision as he has handled the whole affair superbly.
