Alan Shearer thinks Leeds United could sign a ‘nuisance’ who Daniel Farke will love

Premier League survival is well and truly on the cards for Leeds United, and Daniel Farke will be aiming even higher.

An unbeaten seven-match run saw Leeds pull eight points clear of 18th-place West Ham, with 17 matches remaining.

Leeds were beaten 4-3 by Newcastle United on their last top-flight outing, but ahead of their showdown with Fulham at Elland Road on Saturday, Farke will be confident in his team bouncing back.

After all, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of the Premier League’s most in-form strikers with eight goals in his last nine games, and rumours suggest they could even add to their firepower.

What Alan Shearer has said about Leeds target Jorgen Strand Larsen

Leeds have shown an interest in Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to offer strong competition to Calvert-Lewin.

The Norwegian international was one of the top-flights most clinical strikers in 2024/25, having matched Matheus Cunha’s tally of 12.

The 2025/26 campaign has been less forgiving for Wolves and Strand Larsen, who has found the net just once in 19 appearances, while the Old Gold sit bottom of the table on seven points.

But in a formation that suits the towering centre-forward, perhaps Farke’s 3-5-2 system with wing-backs swinging crosses into the box, the 25-year-old could rediscover his goalscoring touch and live up to Alan Shearer’s expectations.

Speaking in April 2025, following Wolves’ 2-1 win over Ipswich Town, Shearer labelled Strand Larsen a “nuisance” for his performance and perfectly summed up his attributes.

“[Strand Larsen] has got 11 goals this season, four in his past three games,” Shearer said via BBC Sport. “Wolves have won three games and drawn one. So that tells you the answer about what are they going to do without their best player.

“He was a nuisance. His hold-up play was excellent and I thought his touch and his control were superb.”

Cunha was absent from that contest due to suspension, but Wolves proved they could cope without him at the time.

How much could Strand Larsen cost Leeds

When West Ham displayed admiration towards the Norwegian in December, Wolves quoted a £40million fee for Strand Larsen, and triggering that asking price would see Leeds smash their transfer record.

Leeds United’s five most expensive arrivals
Georginio Rutter £35.5m, Jan 2023
Rodrigo Moreno £26m, Aug 2020
Dan James £25m, Aug 2021
Brenden Aaronson £24.7m, May 2022
Luis Sinisterra £21m, July 2022

The Wanderers are looking to at least recoup or make a profit on the £27.5m they paid for the striker from Celta Vigo in the summer.

Whether that asking price will decrease remains to be seen, but the longer the window goes on, the lower it should get.

Wolves are at risk of seeing their revenue dramatically decrease in the event of relegation, and therefore, selling Strand Larsen is one of their first priorities.

Rob Edwards will probably accept that his value will plummet once their relegation is confirmed, and Leeds could wait until the summer to sign him or try and negotiate a lower price this month.

That being said, Leeds will be wary of PSR issues, so smashing their transfer record isn’t an option.
