’49ers risk major ridicule’ as Leeds United transfer approach emerges

Leeds United have taken an interesting approach to the summer transfer market.

Gabriel Gudmundsson became Leeds’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window over the last few days, following Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nemcha and Sebastian Bornauw through the door at Elland Road.

Several more are expected over the coming weeks, with the Whites still in desperate need of a new striker and goalkeeper, alongside needing attention in other areas of the squad.

With that said, the way they are going about their business is certainly interesting, and not for many of the right reasons.

Leeds at risk of becoming Southampton 2.0 amid Longstaff latest

While the business done at Elland Road has been decent so far this summer, it would be a massive over exaggeration to say it has been anything more than that.

Bijol is the only real ceiling-raiser to have arrived at Leeds, with around £30million spent on transfer fees as it stands.

That is in comparison to Sunderland, who have already spent over £100m in an attempt to consolidate their place in the Premier League.

That’s not to say money guarantees success, because it doesn’t, but Leeds have been lowballing offers for players this summer, and it looks set to see them lose out on the signing of Sean Longstaff as a result.

The same has already happened with Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, who both made the move to Wearside amid interest from the Whites.

Leeds are in desperate need of accelerating their transfer plans immediately, and they need to start showing some real ambition.

Daniel Farke needs more backing

Bijol is the only addition who will be seen as a big improvement on the squad that achieved promotion, and given that we are now entering mid-July, that will be a worry.

Both Sunderland and Burnley, to an extent, have strengthened their side and more, and seem prepared to have a real go at fighting against relegation.
