49ers left with egg on their face at Leeds United amid latest Emi Buendia reveal

Emi Buendia was heavily linked with a move to Leeds in the summer.

Only a handful of Leeds‘ summer signings have had a big impact in the Premier League this season, with more of the focus on the players that they missed out on.

Igor Paixao is the biggest transfer failure of the summer, though the 49ers also failed to get deals over the line for several other attacking players.

Buendia, having been linked with a move to Elland Road, was one of them, and his return to form showcases why Leeds got it wrong.

Emi Buendia is back at his best for Aston Villa

Daniel Farke has always been a fan of Buendia, making it seem quite likely that he was going to make the move to Leeds United after their promotion.

The Argentine had somewhat lost his way at Aston Villa, with all signs pointing towards an exit.

However, his return to form under Unai Emery has been sensational, with five goal involvements in his last five Premier League appearances.

With three goals and two assists, Buendia has already matched his goal contribution return from the previous 37 games, and will be looking to add to that when he faces off against Farke’s side this weekend.

Leeds have struggled signficantly in the final third this season, and Buendia’s performances truly showcase just how much of an error the 49ers made by not bringing him to Elland Road.

What Daniel Farke said about Emi Buendia after Leeds transfer rumour

Leeds were also linked with Buendia in the Championship in January, as they looked to strengthen their promotion credentials.

In the end, they didn’t need him, with Leeds going on to win the league with 100 points, though his ability to create something out of nothing would certainly have aided their push.

However, Farke refused to comment on the links in January, though he praised his former player.

“I don’t speak about any other player under contract at another club,” Farke said.

“Obviously, I’ve worked with him for many years, and I really rate him. I don’t comment on players on other clubs.”

Farke, alongside many Leeds fans, will be hoping their inability to sign Buendia won’t come back to bite them this weekend.
