49ers communications issues at Leeds United laid bare after what Daniel Farke has just said
Daniel Farke made it clear that he wanted to be backed in the window transfer window, and it was clear to see that the 49ers had money to spend for Leeds United.
The Whites lodged a bid well over £30million for Jorgen Strand Larsen, but ultimately could not match Wolves’ asking price, as Crystal Palace swooped in.
Farke told Paraag Marathe and Co. that he wanted to sign a striker, and in Leeds’ failed attempts to get Strand Larsen, they didn’t have a backup plan.
It’s fair to say the Norwegian was the Whites’ top target, but when Premier League relegation is at risk, there needed to be a structured plan.
The Leeds boss will have been straight to the point in what he wanted, and what he came out with was Facundo Buonanotte.

Daniel Farke words on Facundo Buonanotte brings up PR question at Leeds
Farke has said said, “You can’t just arrive and deliver straight away,” after Buonanotte’s poor performance against Birmingham in the FA Cup, also admitting that the Argentine was brought for depth.
While that may be true, that wasn’t exactly the tone when he first arrived at Elland Road, and it’s not the first example of this happening.
All this time, Leeds fans have been led to believe that Profit and Sustainability Rules have been huge barriers for the Whites. But the fact that they tried to sign Strand Larsen for over £30m suggests otherwise.
- Leeds spent over £100m in the summer
- The Whites’ official bid for Strand Larsen was £33m plus an extra £6m in add-ons
The PR work that seems to be happening behind the scenes at Elland Road just feels like an attempt to keep fans on side, but it will do more harm than good, especially when things get exposed.
It was suggested that the Whites would have to sell before buying in the winter window, and then up comes a £33m bid out of no where.
Again, Farke will have most likely gone to the 49ers with a list of strikers, and attempting to sign just one of them is rather pathetic, all things considered.
49ers have two possible fates at Leeds this summer; this is why
Should Leeds stay up, there will be a demand for more summer signings to be made, and while their business conducted in the summer will be praised, it won’t be enough to keep the Whites up for a competitive season.
They have already proved that they are willing to stretch their financial limits, and Premier League survival would surely ask the 49ers to spend at least another £60-£80m.
However, if relegation were to occur, there would surely be uproar among the Leeds supporters, with many already frustrated with the lack of winter movement.
Buonanotte seems to be a rather pointless signing, especially considering Leeds’ current formation and tactical setup, which only asks more questions of the 49ers.
Marathe and Co. could be hounded out if Farke can’t keep his brilliance up.
