‘You never know…’ – James Milner responds to question on potential Leeds return
James Milner has claimed that the Premier League will be a “better place” for having Leeds United in it.
The veteran Liverpool ace left Elland Road in 2004, but has admitted that he is still “biased” towards his former club.
The Whites currently sit top of the Championship table with five games left to play.
But while he would be delighted to see them back in the big time, Milner has refused to be drawn into giving a concrete answer on whether or not he could one day return to Elland Road.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “You never know in football, what’s around the corner, but I just want to contribute and win as many trophies as I can for Liverpool and add to the great history here.
“I’m biased, but I think the Premier League will be a better place for Leeds in it, and it will be weird to play against them next season.
“It seems a long time ago since I pulled on that shirt, you look back at photos and see how big the shirts were back then. Plenty has changed since then, unfortunately I was part of the team that got relegated and they haven’t come back and recovered just yet.
“It would be great to see them back next season and their fans are incredible as well.”
We would love to see Milner pull on that famous white jersey for one more crack at the Premier League before he hangs up his boots, but whether or not that will actually happen is a different matter entirely.
Milner is on to a good thing at Anfield, and is still showing no signs of slowing down.
The 34-year-old is a model professional and could keep himself competing at the highest level for a few years yet.
Perhaps somewhere in the future a return to Leeds could be on the cards, but for the foreseeable, it’s hard to see Jurgen Klopp parting with such a key member of his dressing room.
