Ex-England international Nigel Martyn has explained why Leeds United should be concerned about a potential move to sign Adama Traore from Wolves.
Speaking to The Boot Room, Martyn explained that rumours about Traore’s future at Molineux should raise eyebrows at Elland Road: “You just worry slightly when your direct competition are happy to sell, but it is whether Bielsa can get a bit more about him. That is always the thought process.
“But I always have reservations when a direct rival is willing to sell.”
Back in December, 90min reported that Leeds were interested in a £40million deal to sign Traore from Wolves.
The Spaniard has been in and out of the first-team XI at Wolves this season, sparking rumours that he could leave.
Director of football Victor Orta is said to remain a huge fan of the player from their time together at Middlesbrough.
Something to consider for Leeds
Martyn makes a strong point and it is something that can often get overlooked in the world of transfers.
Traore is clearly an extremely talented winger and his form this season has shown just that. As per Wyscout, he makes the most third progressive runs of any player in the Premier League per 90 minutes this season.
The Spaniard has also completed the most 1vs1 dribbles this season in the Premier League, showing what a nightmare he can be to defend against.
However, he is yet to score a single Premier League goal this season and has only started 10 league games.
For a £40mililon player, Leeds will no doubt be expecting more than at Elland Road, should he make the move.
We would of course back Bielsa to develop the player and bring him on in the same way he has with the likes of Jack Harrison.
For all of Traore’s qualities, something just has not always been right with him at Wolves.
