YEP: Leeds launch enquiries for midfielder, Victor Orta responds to interest
Leeds United have launched a string of enquiries for Derby County playmaker Louie Sibley, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The 19-year-old has emerged as a target at Elland Road, with Premier League clubs having until Friday to complete deals with EFL sides.
Athletic journalist Ryan Conway shared on Twitter on Monday that Leeds’ interest wasn’t too intense – something which could have changed by now.
Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta has responded to the reports over Sibley, confirming the Whites’ interest in the Derby talent.
“We analyse all the players,” he told the YEP.
“We know them really well, their clubs were our rivals. It’s difficult. They are players we analysed, we have information and then we need to think about the possibility.”
As Orta said, it could be difficult to complete any deals with Derby, especially after a whirlwind couple of years filled with plenty of incidents between the two clubs.
Orta has been behind a number of impressive deals this summer, including for the first team and the under-23s.
Sibley may have impressed at Derby, but it would be unknown whether he would jump straight into the first-team at Elland Road.
The likes of Joe Gelhardt were playing Championship football last season, and have had to start their Leeds careers with the academy – something Marcelo Bielsa likes to do to analyse his younger options.
Orta did confirm the interest, but his comments didn’t suggest that a move for the 19-year-old was imminent, so we’d suggest approaching with caution.
