Willy Gnonto shares what Leeds United fans don’t see Patrick Bamford doing – ‘Massive’

Willy Gnonto doesn’t believe Patrick Bamford gets the credit he deserves for the role he plays at Leeds United.

Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast on Friday (22 March), the Italian international admitted that the 30-year-old is a “massive” part of the way the Whites play as he offers balls to everyone else, opens up spaces and runs the channels.

The 20-year-old winger said the English forward is always up there fighting for the team, adding that he feels they play better when someone is doing that job at Elland Road.

“I think sometimes that Pat doesn’t get the credit that he actually deserves,” said Gnonto. “The role he plays is actually massive for us in the way that we play. You don’t see him every time, but he offers balls to everyone else, opens spaces, runs in the deep and channels.

“He’s always up there fighting for us and I feel like we play better when you have someone like this, as you have different players like me, Cree, Dan. When we have a big guy in the middle fighting, it makes us play better.”

Patrick Bamford deserves praise for Leeds United form

It has been quite the turnaround for Bamford in 2024 after he previously struggled to make much of an impact in the first half of the campaign.

The forward has now scored eight goals since the turn of the year, coinciding with the incredible run the Whites have been on over the past few months.

He’s earned his place back in the starting lineup under Daniel Farke and it’s clear to see that his teammates very much appreciate the job he’s doing for his side.

It will be nice for the Englishman to hear how highly Gnonto thinks of him after the Italian came back into the side around the same time as his teammate.

There is no doubt that the pair will be vital in whatever the West Yorkshire club achieve in the last few weeks of the season as they go in pursuit of promotion back to the Premier League.
