Willy Gnonto names Leeds United teammate he really loves to play alongside

Willy Gnonto has been making an impact off the bench for Leeds United over the past few games as he tries to earn his place back in the starting lineup.

Daniel Farke switched to a 5-3-2 formation at half-time of his side’s defeat to Manchester City last month, which has left Gnonto struggling for minutes.

However, the Italian made his mark as a substitute in Leeds’ recent 3-3 draw with Liverpool, winning the penalty that sparked the comeback at Elland Road.

Gnonto then grabbed an assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late equaliser against Brentford on Sunday, whipping the ball into the box for the Englishman to head home.

Willy Gnonto finds it ‘easy’ to play with Calvert-Lewin

Jordan Henderson opened the scoring for Brentford against Leeds midway through the second half, and Farke immediately turned to Gnonto to get the Whites back in the game.

The winger made an immediate impact, standing up Rico Henry on the right corner of the box, before curling a delicious cross onto the head of Calvert-Lewin, who made no mistake with the finish.

Gnonto praised the former Everton striker after the game, commenting on how “easy” he is to play with.

Speaking to LUTV, Gnonto said: “I think it’s easier when you play with a striker like Dom. You just know that you have to put it in that area and he’s going to attack it.

“I thought it was quite a good ball, but he did a lot of the job, and I’m happy for him.”

Willy Gnonto has helped Leeds boost survival chances

Gnonto’s impact off the bench, combined with Calvert-Lewin’s superb header, has lifted Leeds further clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Farke’s side are now three points clear of West Ham United in 18th, and are unbeaten in their last three games.

Leeds have been especially good at Elland Road this season, capitalising on their boisterous home support to pull off some impressive results.

The Whites have struggled on their travels though, which makes their point away at Brentford all the more valuable.

Following their trip to West London, Leeds will have a real belief that they can avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
