Willy Gnonto injury update emerges for Leeds United v Swansea

Daniel Farke has provided an injury update on Willy Gnonto as Leeds United face Swansea on Saturday in the Championship.

Elland Road will host Alan Sheehan’s team on 29 March as the Whites look to maintain their lead at the top of the league table.

Farke is gunning for Premier League promotion and will definitely want to pick up maximum points in the final eight games of the season.

Gnonto has struggled for game time at the West Yorkshire outfit recently but may yet play an essential role for them until the end of the campaign.

Farke hopes for Gnonto availability for Leeds United v Swansea

Farke hopes to have Gnonto available for the Whites against Swansea at Elland Road.

The German manager revealed that the 21-year-old has an ankle injury, and final tests will take place before the game against the Swans.

Farke also disclosed that the Italian winger was involved in a light training session, but a late decision will need to be made.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, as relayed by Beren Cross on X (27 March), the head coach said: “[Gnonto] has an ankle injury. Arrived on Sunday. Assessment, treatment, rehab.

“Tried to involve him today in a light session. A late decision on him for Saturday. We won’t do anything stupid. I hope to have him at least available for the squad, but final test tomorrow.”

Farke needs a win v Swansea at Elland Road

Farke must’ve been left disappointed before the international break as the Whites dropped two points in their 2-2 draw against QPR at Loftus Road.

The Peacocks have let Sheffield United get closer to them at the top of the table after some underwhelming displays recently.

Chris Wilder’s team are level on points with the West Yorkshire outfit, with Burnley only two points behind in third place.

Leeds will undoubtedly need to be perfect until the end of the season to secure automatic promotion.

The Whites were disheartened after losing to Southampton in the play-offs final last season and can’t let something similar happen again.

Farke’s future at Elland Road will be questioned if the Peacocks fail to get back into the Premier League at the end of the campaign.

Despite the fitness issues at the West Yorkshire outfit, the German manager arguably has the strongest squad in the Championship, so expectations are high.

Gnonto will be hoping to play a much more prominent role at the Peacocks once he’s back fit.
