Willy Gnonto injury at Leeds United: What we know, diagnosis and return date
Willy Gnonto has been absent at Leeds United for nearly a month.
Gnonto last featured off the bench for Leeds against Fulham as Daniel Farke came under fire for underutilising the Italy international.
The winger hasn’t been available at Elland Road since Gnonto picked up an injury for Leeds, which has ruled him out for multiple games.
In the three games without the 21-year-old, the Whites have won one, drawn one and lost one, with Leeds most recently losing 2-1 against Tottenham.
Gnonto’s issue has continued into the international break as the LS11 club awaits his return to full fitness.

What has Daniel Farke said about Willy Gnonto injury?
Leeds were without Gnonto against Bournemouth and Spurs as he continued his recovery from a calf injury at Thorp Arch.
The Italian has been missed as a wide option in Yorkshire after starting three of the opening four Premier League games of the season.
Farke will be keen to get the wide man back as soon as possible, but there will be fears over the potential recurrence of his issue.
The Leeds boss showcased this ahead of the Tottenham clash, speaking out to reveal that Gnonto wasn’t even back in training.
He said: “His calf problems are not sorted. He is not back in team training, and there is no chance to involve him.
“He will also sadly just be back after this upcoming international break, so not available for Tottenham.“
The break from domestic football action could prove to be precisely what the 21-year-old needs to return to full match sharpness.
When could Gnonto return for Leeds United?
Gnonto has already been out for over 25 days, but there does appear to be an end in sight for his injury worries.
If the Whites’ boss is correct in his return verdict, the Italian could be back in the first team squad for upcoming clashes against Burnley or West Ham.
Leeds United upcoming Premier League fixtures
- 18 October – Burnley vs Leeds
- 24 October – Leeds vs West Ham
- 1 November – Brighton vs Leeds
- 9 November – Nottingham Forest vs Leeds
- 23 November – Leeds vs Aston Villa
The match against Scott Parker’s side comes on 18 October, meaning that the winger could make an appearance in 10 days at Turf Moor.
If this comes too soon, Gnonto could come back into the side after 41 days out as the Yorkshire club line up against the Hammers on 24 October.
It will represent a boost to get the number 29 back, ready for what is likely to be a hugely important set of games in the Whites’ season.
