Willy Gnonto footage emerges as Leeds United star screams in pain before substitution

Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto was substituted at half time for Italy Under 21s after screaming in pain after a poor challenge.

The Whites’ star captained his country for the clash against San Marino U21s but only featured for 45 minutes due to a potential injury.

Footage shared by Friedkinismo via X on 5 September showed the 20-year-old squealing after a challenge despite having passed the ball.

The defender appeared to stand on the winger’s Achilles leaving him in considerable pain and unable to continue for much longer.

Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto suffers Italy injury

The Leeds star has an important role to play under Daniel Farke this season being one of the only key forwards to stay at the club beyond the transfer window.

The manager will now be holding his breath in the hope that his man will return to fitness after being withdrawn on international duty.

Gnonto looks likely to be the man, if anyone can, to fire the Whites to promotion so he needs to be fully fit for as much of the season as possible.

It will be frustrating to see him pick up a potential problem off the back of a poor challenge after the ball had already been played.

In an ideal world, being taken off at half time will have given him the opportunity to recover and as a result, can feature for his country against Norway on Tuesday (10 September).

It was distressing to see the winger scream in pain like he did in a frustrating start to the international break.
