Willy Gnonto exit from Leeds United accelerates, transfer deal with Everton ‘ever closer’

Willy Gnonto looks set to be on his way out of Leeds United as a deal taking him to Everton has now moved “ever closer”, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported the news in its print edition (page 16) on 16 July, with the 19-year-old expected to move on for a fee in the region of £18.9million.

The Italy international has been keen on remaining in the Premier League after showing glimpses of his quality last season, where he scored two goals and laid on four assists in 24 league appearances.

Notable profit

It looked inevitable following Leeds’s relegation that they weren’t going to be able to keep hold of Gnonto this summer following the many plaudits he received for some of his performances last season.

The club have been holding out for a decent chunk of change for the teenager over the past few weeks and it appears as though they’re set to receive a fee in the region of their asking price.

That will ensure the Whites make a notable profit on the winger after The Daily Mail reported last year he had arrived in West Yorkshire for about £3.8million in his move from Zurich.

Leeds United

It will be disappointing for Leeds fans to have only been able to see Gnonto at Elland Road for one season but, at times, he showed just what an exciting, talented player he is.

The money from his transfer will certainly help Daniel Farke to bring in at least a couple of additions to build a squad capable of fighting for promotion in the upcoming campaign.

In other Leeds United news, one exit-linked star could be open to staying on at Elland Road next season.
