Willy Gnonto could now exit Leeds United in final hours of winter transfer window

West Ham United could make a last-gasp move for Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto, according to Dean Jones.

The Hammers look set to miss out on forwards Ibrahim Osman and Jota, and could now turn their attention toward the 20-year-old Leeds ace.

Joves told GIVEMESPORT (31 January), “West Ham is an interesting one and they are being offered new opportunities for their attack as deals for Osman and Jota hit the skids. It’s been a pretty frustrating week because they thought at one stage that both players would end up signing.

“But now they are having to consider the possibility of not signing anyone to bolster their front line. I’m told they don’t want to panic and don’t want to take on a player they didn’t already have on the radar.

“A situation like Gnonto is one that would appeal but at the moment it hasn’t progressed. But I always stay open-minded when it comes to West Ham in the last hours of a window.”

Saga

Leeds supporters will be sick and tired of the question marks over Gnonto’s future and will want the Italy international to resolve his long-term future one way or the other.

In truth, Daniel Farke’s team selections this season have proved that the Whites are not as reliant on the winger as it appeared that they were last season.

Gnonto has started just seven times in the Championship throughout the 2023/24 campaign, only managing to score one goal and provide one assist so far.

If the club were to sell him before the January transfer window shuts, it is hard to imagine there would be as much outrage as there would have been had they sold him during the summer.

A last-minute sale could provide the club with a useful cash boost.

While they won’t have any time to spend it in January, any fee they generate could come in handy in the summer, especially if the Whites are promoted back to the Premier League.
