Willy Gnonto £17m Leeds United valuation emerges, he wants Elland Road summer exit

Leeds United are commanding a free in excess of £17million for jet-heeled winger Willy Gnonto, according to Calcio Mercato.

It’s believed the 19-year-old is eager to move on following the club’s relegation from the Premier League (Calcio Mercato, 14 June).

The likes of Fiorentina and AC Milan have both enquired, however, Leeds’ £17million demand has been deemed too excessive. It’s believed either club would be interested in a loan move if the Whites’ demands changed.

Bit cheap?

If Leeds did sell Gnonto for £17million then they would’ve made a healthy profit for just one year’s work.

However, when you consider the financial losses from relegation and the Jean-Kevin Augustin fee which needs to be paid – it’s a drop in the ocean.

Gnonto’s raw ability and potential means the board have to be trying to retain his services for the 2023/24 season. He could be far too good for the average Championship defender.

However, they will have to consider the player’s attitude and wishes.

If he doesn’t want to be part of the plans at Elland Road then they should look to move him on. The new manager – whoever it may be – needs players who are directly invested in the club’s best interests.

The second tier is not for the faint-hearted and a slow start will cost Leeds badly. A squad that is full to the brim with ambitious and determined players is what’s required.

In other Leeds United news, Sky Sports has named the Leeds player who is likely to be top of the list of the Elland Road exits this summer.
