‘Will be signing a new contract’ – Manager confirms new deal for Leeds forward within weeks

Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson has already impressed at Aberdeen after moving there for a half-season loan.

After struggling for game-time at Leeds, Edmondson made his debut in Scotland the day after signing for the Dons, playing the last half-hour against Rangers.

Talking in the Evening Express, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes revealed that Edmondson is set to sign a new Leeds contract “in the next few weeks”.

Aberdeen moved for Edmondson when Dons striker Sam Cosgrove was ruled out for eight to 10 weeks with a fractured cartilage.

“Obviously Ryan is a bit behind, although probably further ahead of where Sam was when he first came in,” McInnes said.

“But Ryan does score goals at his own level. He is highly thought of at Leeds and will be signing a new contract there in the next few weeks.

“Ryan is young, he is raw at times, but he has potential and gives us something different.”

Leeds fans will be watching Edmondson’s progress at Aberdeen with real interest.

The 19-year-old striker is a real unit, big and strong for his age, and has been scoring goals for fun for the Leeds Under-23s.

He’s made the breakthrough into the senior side but Marcelo Bielsa obviously thinks his game needs work.

He didn’t get much of a sniff against Rangers but that will be one of the toughest games he’ll play north of the border.

Other opponents will give him much more of a chance to show what he can do.

We think it’s the perfect move for the youngster. The level of opponent in the Premiership varies massively and we think he should really develop as a player before his return to Leeds in January.

The confirmation that he’s signing a new contract at Leeds shortly shows his future at Elland Road is bright.
