Wilfried Gnonto suspension update at Leeds United ahead of Norwich showdown

Willy Gnonto would not be suspended for the playoff final – should Leeds United qualify – if he picks up a booking in the second leg of the playoff semi-finals against Norwich City, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Gnonto received a yellow in the first leg at Carrow Road on 12 May for sarcastically applauding in disagreement with a refereeing decision.

However, being booked again would not see him suspended if the Whites make it to Wembley – though any sending-off would rule him out.

Can Willy Gnonto drag Leeds United back to the Premier League?

Gnonto’s slippery skills and wily street smarts have been a potent weapon out wide for Leeds this season.

Restored to the side – and the fans’ good books – after an agitated start to the campaign following a failed transfer away from Elland Road, Gnonto has used his stocky frame and balance to unsettle many a defender in the Championship.

That is reflected by his average of 2.94 fouls drawn per 90 in the Championship this term as defenders struggle to live with his movement [FBref].

Gnonto is dangerous when faced with open space, too, carrying the ball an average of 280.45 yards per game in league competition and frequently dragging the Whites forward, turning defence into attack in the blink of an eye.

His productivity has not been bad either, with eight league goals this season – though his numbers are less eye-catching than fellow forwards Crysencio Summerville or Georginio Rutter.

Still, Daniel Farke and Leeds will be relying on him to help make the difference against Norwich as the Whites bid to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
