Wilfried Gnonto not good enough in Leeds United win v Hull live on Sky Sports

Alan McInally has slated Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto after his performance in the 2-0 win against Hull City on 31 August.

The Whites managed to come away with all three points against their Yorkshire Rivals but despite their triumph, McInally singled out Gnonto as a player that didn’t perform as well as he could’ve done.

The Italian international started hours after his new four-year contract was announced, with his disallowed goal as good as it got.

“Wilfried Gnonto, he’s not done enough for me,” McInally said live on Sky Soccer Saturday [31 August, 16:12].

Wilfried Gnonto needs to refind his Leeds United form

Despite managing to come away with the win, Gnonto has failed to live up to the form that he was showcasing week in and week out last term.

Leeds’ win against Hull came courtesy of youngster Mateo Joseph and exit-linked ace Joel Piroe.

But, when the fact that Gnonto has just had his Elland Road stay extended [Graham Smyth, 31 August] is taken into account, it feels as if the striker should be one of their main contributors to goals.

However, since the start of the 2024/25 season, this hasn’t been the case. Granted, both Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have exited but the duo have more than suitably been replaced.

This was shown by newbie Manor Solomon chipping in with an assist just after the hour mark.

Should the West Yorkshire outfit wish to gain automatic promotion this term, they’re going to need Gnonto to step up his form a gear or two.

In other Leeds United news, Dejan Ljubicic is reportedly frustrated that a move to the Whites didn’t come to fruition.
