Wilfried Gnonto news as late January loan twist emerges at Leeds United

Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto could now seal a late loan exit in the January transfer window, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The newspaper reported in its print edition [22 January, pg 16] that the winger has been proposed to Lazio, who really wants to strengthen in that area.

It is said that Tottenham’s Bryan Gil and Manchester City wonder Oscar Bobb are two other targets from England who could move to Italy this month.

Gnonto was first brought up to Lazio in November, and it is said that he now wants to leave again, just as he tried to do so in the summer transfer window.

Convenient.

Just as Gnonto appeared to pick up an injury that kept him out of the squad for the 2-1 win over Preston on 21 January, the transfer rumours gather speed again.

Daniel Farke was clear in his message that it was just an injury, but given his clear desire to leave the club over the summer, it is no surprise to anyone that these sort of links are emerging again.

Would a loan exit suit both Gnonto and Leeds?

The Italian wants top-flight football to try and keep his spot in the senior international side, but the Whites would be silly to just let him leave on loan after the saga of the summer.

Farke and the 49ers were left picking up the mess of previous contracts and owners with numerous loan exits, and given how hard they pushed to keep Gnonto then, it is hard to see them backtracking now.

If Gnonto wants top-flight football, he is going to have to pull up his socks and help Leeds achieve just that, exactly what Crysencio Summerville, Dan James and Georginio Rutter are doing.

A late loan exit? No chance, surely.
