Wilfried Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra and Leo Hjelde back, Daniel James out – Confirmed Leeds United team news vs Ipswich Town

Leeds United will welcome back Luis Sinisterra, Wilfried Gnonto and Leo Hjelde to their squad to face Ipswich, but Daniel James is out Daniel Farke has confirmed.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (24 August), the Leeds boss confirmed that wantaway duo Sinisterra and Gnonto are back in the squad training and are available to play, while Hjelde has recovered from his concussion.

James has an issue with his adductor and the club are hopeful it’s not too bad, while Joe Gelhardt has a slight shoulder knock but has trained all week and should be available too.

“Willy [Gnonto] and Luis [Sinisterra] are back in the squad, Leo [Hjelde] also after his concussion, so a slightly improved situation to last week,” he said.

“Dan James has a problem with his adductor, we hope it’s not too bad. Joe [Gelhardt] had a slight shoulder injury but he’s trained all week.“

Ian Poveda is also not ready to play following his injury, while Stuart Dallas is still “far away” from a return.

Huge

That is absolutely huge news for Leeds that the players were were refusing to play are back in the mix as it adds huge quality to the squad.

The manager absolutely made the right call when it came to leaving them out after they decided they didn’t want to play, but after both players apologised and were ready to come back in it’s evident that we need them.

Leeds United

It would be stupid not to use them now that they’re available and willing, and if the club aren’t willing to sell them then they obviously have to be used.

Farke has clearly drawn a line under the issues and is now going to get them back into the mix, and the return of Hjelde also offers more depth in defence.

James’ injury is a bit of a blow as he has been good so far this season, but there’s no doubting we’re far stronger now than we have been in the last two weeks.
