Wilfried Gnonto is long-time Leeds United target, only top transfers will be completed

By Sean Clifford.

Leeds United are keen on bringing FC Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto to Elland Road this window, who is a ‘long time’ target according to journalist Fabrizio Romano

The reliable journalist has shared that Gnonto is viewed as a big prospect for the coming years, whilst detailing that the 18-year-old has been on Leeds United’s radar for quite some time.

Plying his trade in Switzerland at FC Zurich, the youngster netted ten times in 2021/22 encompassing all club competitions, as well as earning his first senior caps for Italy at senior international level.

Writing on his personal Twitter account in the last few hours, Romano shared the latest in the Whites’ pursuit of Gnonto.

“They are following Willy Gnonto as potential future talent since long time.”

“Leeds will complete new signings only if they find top opportunities.”

Gnonto would fit Jesse Marsch signing philosophy

Fitting the bill as an upcoming talent, Italy international Gnonto would fit Jesse Marsch’s signing policy he has implemented this summer at Leeds United.

Out of his seven summer acquisitions this summer, six of them have been of 25 years of age or under, with goalkeeper Joel Robles being the only exception at 32 years old.

Gnonto possesses versatility and a strong work ethic, being capable of playing out on the flank as well as through the middle, whilst his work ethic could fit well with Marsch’s high-octane style of play.

His pace and potency would be a real threat to Premier League backlines as a starter or impact player, something that is reflected in the fact he was the second highest scoring substitute in Europe across 2021/22.

Of course, Leeds United will only look to secure deals for premium talent as reported, however, Gnonto would be definitely one to watch should a deal be completed to take the forward to Elland Road.

In light of potential other suitors, moving to bring the 18-year-old to the Premier League would be a smart move by everyone connected with Leeds United.
