Why Leeds United failed to sign Harry Wilson – ‘Large bid’ and deal sheet drama

Leeds United were busy in the transfer window, making 10 first-team signings, as they look to avoid relegation in the Premier League this season.

It was clear that Daniel Farke wanted more activity on deadline day, with Leeds actively pursuing Harry Wilson.

However, the Wilson deal hinged on other deals going through, and unfortunately for Leeds, the move from Fulham did not materialise in time, leaving fans outraged.

Leeds believe they are not to blame for the failure of Wilson’s move to Elland Road, though.

Deal sheet drama for Harry Wilson

Leeds fans could not believe that all the eggs were put in one basket, with Adam Underwood ultimately failing in the final week of the window – a familiar story at Elland Road.

As reported by The Times journalist Peter Rutzler, Tyrique George’s move to Fulham was cancelled due to Wilson’s switch to Leeds not being completed.

Drama ensued as it was claimed Leeds and Wilson had filled out their part of the deal sheet, whilst Elland Road sources have suggested Fulham didn’t sign it ahead of the 7 pm deadline.

Fulham have responded, stating that Wilson was never for sale.

Leeds did mount a “large bid” for the player, who has been consistent in the Premier League over the last few years, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

Having started his career at Liverpool’s academy, Wilson has shone in the Championship and the Premier League over several years, providing experience for Leeds.

Farke made it clear that he needed an experienced Premier League winger throughout the transfer window, and was dealt a further blow as he missed out on another long-term target.

Manor Solomon snubs Leeds return in favour of Villarreal move

Having been one of Leeds’ stars during the promotion season, Solomon had been linked with a permanent move to Elland Road all summer.

At one point, it looked as if Spurs would keep Solomon, yet the Israeli international ended up moving to Spanish side Villarreal.

Having registered 22 goal contributions in the Championship during the 2024/25 season, Leeds were also hopeful of bringing him back to the West Yorkshire.

However, yet again, Farke will feel frustrated with proceedings, as Leeds have missed out on a winger that they desperately craved.
