When and how Dominic Calvert-Lewin could shatter Jamie Vardy’s Premier League record

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in an extraordinary run of form for Leeds United in the Premier League with records falling by the wayside.

Calvert-Lewin has now scored in six consecutive top-flight games after netting the equaliser in the Whites’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland, becoming the first Leeds player to achieve the feat since 1960.

The former Everton man is now up to eight Premier League goals for the season, and is pushing his name into the conversation for England’s World Cup squad.

As he continues to find the back of the net with ease, Calvert-Lewin must surely be eyeing an infamous record held by a certain Jamie Vardy.

Calvert-Lewin would break Jamie Vardy’s record against Arsenal

Vardy scored in 11 consecutive top-flight games during the 2015-16 season, on the way to winning the Premier League title and Golden Boot.

Calvert-Lewin is only halfway to breaking the record following his goalscoring exploits in December, but it could provide the Englishman with a touch more motivation over the next few games.

On current pace, the Leeds man would equal Vardy’s feat against former club Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 26 January.

Leeds United’s next six Premier League games

Calvert-Lewin decided to leave Everton over the summer after nine years on Merseyside, moving to Elland Road as a free agent.

If he continues scoring over the next five games, the centre-forward will have a chance to break Vardy’s record against Premier League leaders Arsenal on 31 January.

Could Calvert-Lewin really make Premier League history

There is a reason why Vardy’s record goalscoring run is held in such high regard, as it is such a difficult thing to achieve.

Even the very best strikers rarely score on such a regular basis; Harry Kane only ever managed five Premier League games on the bounce, for example.

However, Calvert-Lewin is in such a rich vein of form that he has a genuine opportunity to break the record.

There’s no doubt that the Leeds man still requires a huge amount to go his way to even equal Vardy’s feat, but the way he is looking, you’d be a brave person to bet against him.
