‘What about Bielsa?’ – Brazil criticises Leeds boss, claims Whites face relegation fight

Alan Brazil has questioned why there is no pressure on Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa following criticism of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

There have been calls for Arteta to be sacked following the Gunners’ poor start to the season and with Leeds just three points ahead of Arsenal, Brazil is wondering why Bielsa is being hailed as a ‘messiah’.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, the former Scotland striker also claimed that Leeds could find themselves in a relegation battle in the near future.

He said, “I was looking at the table, I’ve been looking at the way Leeds play. They just need a string of three or four bad results and they’re sucked into this [relegation fight].

“I love the way they attack teams but this guy [Bielsa] is a messiah according to some. He may just have to change his ways in February and March.

“What about Bielsa? Bielsa’s three points above Arsenal and everyone is saying what a genius he is. He’s three points above Arsenal.”

Leeds

Brazil should be reminded that Leeds have just come up from the Championship and are looking to avoid relegation as a priority.

A decent finish for the Whites would be a bonus but making sure the club stays in the top flight this season is the priority, as it is for any promoted club.

The reason Bielsa isn’t under any pressure is that he has proved he is a good manager at Leeds by securing promotion and performing well in the Premier League.

These are completely different circumstances to the mess Arteta finds himself in at Arsenal as Pep Guardiola’s former assistant has no experience as a manager and has very little in the bank to fall back on when criticism comes his way.

It is true that Leeds aren’t completely clear of the relegation fight but if any manager can be trusted to make sure the club aren’t sucked in, it’s Bielsa.

In other Leeds United news, Bielsa left unimpressed at Patrick Bamford question.
