‘What a baller’ – England cricketer wowed by Leeds player in win v Burnley
England cricketer Tim Bresnan has labelled Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford as a ‘baller’ after his penalty against Burnley on Sunday.
Using his personal Twitter account, Bresnan replied to Leeds United’s tweet about the goal and it is fair to say he was rather impressed with the striker, saying: “What a baller. I’d swear but I’m not allowed. Insert f-bomb in between what and baller!!! That’s all.”
Luke Ayling played a delightful ball in between the two Burnley centre-backs, but Bamford was brought down by England international Nick Pope before he had a chance to find the back of the net.
After dusting himself off, Bamford cooly dispatched the penalty into the top corner to give Leeds the lead and eventually, all three points.
The coolest of penalties
Bamford is now only three goals behind Mohamed Salah, who still leads the way for Premier League goals this season.
If he can continue to convert them from the spot as cooly as he did against Burnley, he will certainly feel confident about his ability to close that gap.
With games against West Brom, Brighton and Newcastle between now and the end of January, there could be plenty of opportunities for Bamford to continue his impressive scoring record.
Speaking after the game, Bamford outlined his intentions to try and compete for the Golden Boot this season.
Leeds are currently ranked third highest in the Premier League for big chances missed, according to the official league website.
With only Liverpool recording more shots in the division, the chances are going to continue to come for Bamford.
If the Whites can become more ruthless in front of goal, there is no reason why Bamford’s goalscoring form has to slow down anytime soon.
