We've been proved right as new Salford boss drops Gotts for first game

Leeds United loanee Robbie Gotts wasn’t included in Salford City’s matchday squad as the League Two side lost to Exeter on Saturday.

Gotts has impressed since his January loan move to Salford and he has been a regular in the side since he joined.

However, a change of management occurred last week as Richie Wellens was relieved of his duties after just a few months in the role.

Wellens often spoke about how he liked Gotts and we wrote a comment piece last week suggesting that a change in management could have a detrimental effect on Gotts’ development.

We may have been proved right.

Gotts was nowhere to be seen as new boss Gary Bowyer got his reign off to a losing start.

As of yet, there has been no reason given for why Gotts was completely omitted from the matchday squad though it is possible he is injured.

You’d think that we’d have been told if Gotts had picked up a knock however.

Hopefully the club will be in contact with Salford in the near future to get to the bottom of this situation.

We can’t allow Gotts’ development to stall again after his first loan spell of the season at Lincoln proved to be a failure.

Alfie McCalmont scored for Oldham on Saturday as he proved why our talented youngsters should be playing for their loan sides week in week out.

Luckily there are only a few weeks left of the season so how much damage a few weeks on the sidelines will actually do to Gotts is debatable.

It just pains us to see one of our talented youngsters not being used when they’re meant to be out developing in the lower leagues.

We can only imagine how Gotts must feel after being potentially dropped after not putting a foot wrong over the last few weeks.

In a weird way, we’re almost hoping he’s injured.
