Weston McKennie team news at Leeds United emerges ahead of clash v Nottingham Forest amid work permit wait
Leeds United midfielder Weston McKennie could make his debut against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.
The 24-year-old completed his move to Elland Road (30 January) after Leeds finally came to an agreement with Juventus.
McKennie is still awaiting a work permit, but if it arrives in time, Thornton has suggested the American international could make his debut against Steve Cooper’s side (5 January).

“That’s the new signing here at Leeds United. He could make his debut here this weekend in front of the Sky cameras against Nottingham Forest,” said Thornton (Sky Sports News, 08:04pm)

Jesse Marsch shouldn’t hesitate when it comes to McKennie’s involvement against Nottingham Forest. He’s been playing regularly for both club and country and there should be no reason why he can’t slot straight into the Whites’ midfield if required.
Tyler Adams and Marc Roca have been Marsch’s go-to pairing so far in the 2022/23 campaign, but McKennie’s arrival could certainly see a change in the centre of the park. The obvious omission would be Roca. The American has played with Adams a number of times and could form a formidable partnership with his compatriot if he’s given the chance.

Competition for places forces players to perform and strength in depth is required if a side wishes to be successful. From Marsch’s perspective, the pressure is now on to deliver a consistent run of results.
The weekend’s match against Nottingham Forest promises to be another crucial fixture for the American as he attempts to prove he is the right man to take the club forward. Let’s hope the trip to the City Ground is the start of the Whites climbing the Premier League table.
