Weston McKennie happy to exit Leeds United as £30m agreement vanishes

Weston McKennie is happy to return to Juventus as the midfielder’s Leeds United agreement vanishes into thin air, according to Tutto Sport.

The American international is increasingly unlikely to remain at Elland Road beyond his current loan spell, with a July return to Juventus now on the cards (Tutto Sport, 26 May).

It’s understood the prospect of returning to Turin is now a burden for the 24-year-old, who has struggled to settle at Elland Road. It’s believed McKennie securing a £30million-plus move to Leeds has now “definitely vanished”.

Failure

McKennie’s move to Leeds United has been a resounding failure. We all expected so much more. He came with a big reputation but has categorically failed to live up to the hype. However, all will be forgotten if the midfielder helps Leeds secure their Premier League status on Sunday.

It’s an unlikely scenario, but stranger things have happened. An early goal is absolutely vital for Sam Allardyce’s men. It would reverberate around Goodison Park and the King Power. Perhaps being underdogs could work in Leeds’ favour.

Everyone expects the Whites to fall into the Championship. The expectations are fairly low at Elland Road and this could allow the players to play with freedom and take the game to Tottenham. We could also the pressure become too much for them against West Ham.

It’s fair to say if Allardyce does keep Leeds up, it will be one of, if not the greatest achievement of his career to date.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites ace may be the first “high-profile” Elland Road exit this summer, with talks underway and a bid on the cards for the player.
