Welsh media react to what Leeds United star Daniel James did in win vs North Macedonia

Leeds United star Daniel James has played a significant role for Wales in the latest international break.

The winger has managed just three starts for Leeds in the Premier League so far in 2025-26, but he has remained a crucial part of his country’s plans on the international stage.

James has had to battle injury at Leeds already this season, so Daniel Farke will be delighted to see that he has come through his latest assignments away from Elland Road unscathed on the fitness front.

The 28-year-old started for Wales in their final World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia on Tuesday night, and played a key role in a resounding victory for his team.

Daniel James hailed for causing ‘all manner of problems’ for Wales

Ethan Ampadu was criticised for his role in Wales’ 1-0 win over Liechtenstein at the weekend, but the national media only had positive things to say about James after their 7-1 win in midweek.

Craig Bellamy’s side routed their visitors at the Cardiff City Stadium and secured their place in the European play-offs, as their bid to secure World Cup qualification looks set to go right to the wire.

Leeds-linked star Harry Wilson hit a hat-trick, including two penalties, while James also found the net shortly before the hour mark.

It was an impressive showing from Wales, and the Whites wideman had his fingerprints all over their electric attacking display, with national media outlets left gushing over his performance.

The ex-Swansea City man was handed an eye-catching 9/10 rating by Wales Online, who said that he put in a “really good performance.”

They also added that James’ “searing pace caused all manner of problems” for the North Macedonia backline.

Y Clwb Pel-Droed were similarly delighted with his showing, as they handed him an 8/10 rating, as outlined that he shone with his “blistering pace.”

Daniel James to start for Leeds vs Aston Villa

Leeds face a crucial clash with Aston Villa on Sunday, as they go in search of a victory that would put daylight between them and the relegation zone.

Most Premier League managers will be relishing the return to league action this weekend, but Farke will likely be in a much more cautious mood, given his team’s recent form.

Nevertheless, James’ exploits on the international stage may be enough for the boss to throw him in from the start against Unai Emery’s visitors.

The wideman hasn’t started in the league for his club since the 0-0 draw with Newcastle at the end of August, and Farke may well value his inclusion in an attempt to shake up his group ahead of their upcoming clash.
