Welsh media react to Karl Darlow after what Leeds United star did v Turkiye

Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow impressed for Wales in their 0-0 draw against Turkiye, which the Welsh media have reacted positively to.

The 34-year-old started and kept a clean sheet for The Dragons in their Nations League clash in the city of Kayseri on Saturday (16 November).

The Whites’ number two shot-stopper was forced into three saves [FotMob], including one in the opening 45 minutes that went down particularly well.

Wales Online [16 November] said: “Made a terrific save in the first half, but was otherwise relatively untested given the level of pressure from the hosts.”

The keeper made a positive impression on Michael Pearlman, via BBC Sport [16 November], who said: “Turkey pack the box and send in a dangerous cross and Karl Darlow claims it brilliantly.

“He’s been superb tonight for Wales.”

Tom Coleman, meanwhile, covering the game for Wales Online’s live blog [16 November], described another Darlow save as “brilliant”.

Leeds United ace Karl Darlow shines for Wales v Turkiye

The ex-Newcastle United man has rarely been handed a chance to prove himself at Elland Road since signing last summer.

This has seen the Welshman make only five appearances for the Whites, with just one coming this season in the Carabao Cup against Middlesbrough.

The goalkeeper has made more appearances for his country than his club this campaign but has impressed with two clean sheets in three games.

This form for Wales continued against Turkiye as the likes of Arda Guler and Hakan Calhanoglu failed to breach the away side’s goal.

This has gone down well with the national media, which will only hand Darlow’s confidence a boost after a difficult few years on the bench at Elland Road.

He may be hopeful of getting a chance in the first team under Daniel Farke, especially with Illan Meslier being error-prone at times, as shown by his mistake against Sunderland earlier in the season.

In other Leeds United news, Joe Rodon was rock-solid for Wales while overcoming an injury worry.
