‘We now actually have that date to look forward to’ – Bamford reacts to recent EFL update

Last week, the EFL sent a letter to Leeds United and the rest of the Championship clubs which said that they aim to let players return to training on May 16.

A three-week extension to the United Kingdom’s lockdown was confirmed on Thursday and if those restrictions are lifted on time, then it does seem that players can return to training on that date.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford is fully aware that date might change due to the nature of the coronavirus pandemic but he is happy to finally have something to look forward to.

“When the coronavirus surfaced, nobody knew what was happening or how long the season would be suspended for,” Bamford told iNews.

“The uncertainty makes it difficult but then came the news last week with the EFL saying we are not going to be back training until 16 May at the earliest.

“At least we now actually have that date to look forward to, although I guess it’s all subject to change with how the virus is contained.”

It is a tough time for everyone and footballers must be finding it tough to keep themselves motivated at home when they do not know when they’re going to be back playing.

Leeds’ players all have their training programmes to follow to keep themselves fit but nothing beats being out there on the grass with your team-mates and playing football.

However something that players need to take into account is that this is the same for all of their opponents.

Leeds’ players will be rusty once the football returns but so will the squads of West Brom, Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and everyone else in the promotion race.

In other Leeds United news, there’s been a mouthwatering claim about potential investment in the club.
