Wayne Rooney warns Leeds United amongst five clubs in ‘greatest danger’ of Premier League relegation after defeat v Arsenal
Wayne Rooney believes Leeds United are among five clubs in the “greatest danger” of suffering relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season.
The Whites suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat at the hands of league leaders Arsenal on Saturday [1 April] at the Emirates – their third defeat under Javi Gracia leaving them level on points with Everton who sit in the drop zone.
And Rooney reckons that three clubs out of The Whites, Southampton, his former club Everton, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth are in most danger of dropping to the Championship.

Writing in his column for The Times [3 April], he wrote: “It is hard to remember a tighter relegation battle. Things are so close between the bottom nine.
“The clubs in greatest danger? Southampton, Leeds United, Bournemouth, Everton and maybe Nottingham Forest. I reckon three out of those five will go down.”
Huge games ahead
Gracia would have known that his side’s season wouldn’t have been defined by the trip to the Emirates Stadium at the weekend, with far tighter battles awaiting Leeds United in the coming weeks.
The Whites face huge games ahead in the coming days, three home games in a row in fact, with two of them coming against their rivals Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, in what will be one of the most exciting relegation battles we’ll arguably ever see.

The game against Arsenal was a free-hit one which a good performance was arguably better than the result but the Whites failed to deliver either which only heightens the magnitude of these upcoming games.
How Leeds United will approach these two games will be very intriguing as The Athletic journalist Phil Hay claims that Gracia had to compromise in Sunday’s encounter for their more tighter battles this coming week.
And Rooney is absolutely right, the club are arguably amongst the clubs in the most danger, however, that picture could dramatically change if they pick up six points from their next two pivotal encounters. No pressure.
