Wayne Rooney wants to see even more from Leeds United star he’s a big fan of

Wayne Rooney has suggested that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has got even more to offer Leeds United as he discussed the striker’s England prospects.

Leeds smashed Crystal Palace 4-1 at Elland Road on Saturday, as Calvert-Lewin bagged himself another brace.

Daniel Farke has really turned things around in LS11 recently, just weeks after being under threat of losing his job.

Calvert-Lewin has scored five goals in five games and is showing no signs of slowing down.

But former Manchester United striker Rooney knows that the sky is the limit for the Leeds forward, but he has urged him to keep going.

Wayne Rooney discusses Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s World Cup chances

Calvert-Lewin had his critics early on at Leeds, but it hasn’t taken the striker long to silence doubters.

Farke’s formation change has seen the 28-year-old burst into form, now far and away the Whites’ top scorer for the season.

While speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, presenter Mark Chapman asked Rooney what Calvert-Lewin’s chances are for making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for next year’s World Cup.

Chapman asked: “Calvert-Lewin at the moment seems like he’s in pole position to be Harry Kane’s understudy at the World Cup, would you agree?”

Rooney responded: “Yeah, he’s doing everything right. I think he’s got more to do until the end of the season. He’s doing what he does; he’s a handful.”

“He’s a threat in the box, he’s good in the air, and he’s scoring goals. He’s putting himself in the bracket of putting himself in that squad, but he has to carry it on.”

Calvert-Lewin’s interesting goal pattern

Leeds brought Calvert-Lewin to the club for free after his deal with Everton expired at the end of last season.

The signing raised many eyebrows, with supporters not overly convinced that he was the man to lead the line in the Whites’ bid for Premier League stability.

Calvert-Lewin has totalled an expected goals (xG) tally of 6.99 from 33 shots, meaning a solid conversion rate of 21.2 per cent.

The interesting part is when you take a look at where the number nine’s goals have come from. They have quite literally all come from central positions in the box, in line with the penalty spot, or thereabouts.

If Leeds can keep getting the ball into these areas, the Englishman will have no problem in scoring a hatful of more goals.
