Wayne Rooney sacked as Leeds United win final straw at Birmingham

Wayne Rooney has been sacked as Birmingham manager after their heavy 3-0 defeat to Leeds United on New Year’s Day, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper has reported on its website that the defeat at Elland Road was the final straw for the former Manchester United attacker, who has had little success in management.

Birmingham supporters turned on Rooney in West Yorkshire, with the home crowd also giving him some stick throughout the dominant 90 minutes for the Whites.

Embarrassing.

There has been little better than seeing Rooney fail in his management career so far, with Frank Lampard also on the same boat in recent years.

Both have tried and failed with Derby, who are now in League One, and Rooney could not lay a glove on Leeds at Elland Road again yesterday, leading to his inevitable sack.

It is expected to be officially confirmed and announced later this morning, much to the laughter from Leeds fans and those alike.

Daniel Farke, on the other hand, got a much-needed win after a very poor Christmas period that saw defeats at Preston and West Brom, keeping him in touch with the top two.

Ipswich are not exactly in the best run of form right now, with Southampton also dropping points on what was a successful latest round of fixtures.

There is still a long way to go, and although Birmingham are looking for their third manager of the season already, Farke will be hoping he is still in charge and taking Leeds to the Premier League later this year.

In other Leeds United news, another Elland Road loanee has been savaged by an international media news outlet for his recent display.
