Watch: Illan Meslier stares down Fulham fans after Leeds United penalties win
Illan Meslier stared down Fulham fans after his match-winning save for Leeds United at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night.
Leeds booked their place in the fourth round of the competition after a 6-5 penalty shoot-out victory which followed a goalless draw.
Meslier, 21, won the match as he saved Rodrigo Muniz’s spot-kick and afterwards, a video clip showed the French goalkeeper staring down Fulham fans who’d been taunting him beforehand.
Superstar in the making
Meslier is going from strength to strength with Leeds.
While he was on the whole very impressive last season in his first full campaign as Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice goalkeeper, he was still prone to the odd mistake.
We forgave Meslier every time though because the Frenchman pulled off stunning save after stunning save and even this season, we’ve noticed that he doesn’t seem to be as error-prone.
He was brilliant against Newcastle last Friday and was in fine form again on Tuesday at Craven Cottage to help us win the penalty shoot-out and take a step further in the Carabao Cup.
We’ve got a really great talent on our hands in Meslier, who’s already shown at the age of 21 that he can be a top-class Premier League goalkeeper.
It won’t be long before he’s drawing attention from top clubs in the Premier League and across Europe but let’s hope we can keep him of the former Lorient shot-stopper as long as possible.
He’s absolutely fantastic.
