Washington Post journalist shares what source says about Leeds United exit for Mateusz Klich as MLS story emerges

DC United are pursuing a move for Mateusz Klich as Wayne Rooney looks to add the Leeds United midfielder to his squad, according to the Washington Post’s Steven Goff.

Sportowefakty revealed (8 December) the 32-year-old was attracting attention from “several” MLS teams, with DC United showing the most interest.

Klich is also believed to be on the radar of Royal Antwerp with the Jupiler League side looking to keep the midfielder in Europe.

Goff has since revealed (via Twitter, 9 December) that Rooney is tracking the Poland international with the former Manchester United manager wanting to sign an attacking midfielder during the MLS offseason.

Makes sense

This is a move which makes sense for all concerned. Klich hasn’t featured as much as he would’ve wanted to under Jesse Marsch and he will be eager to be playing regular football during the latter stages of his career. The MLS seems like a good environment for the Poland international to move to, with the standard of football significantly lower than what is present in the Premier League.

From Leeds’ perspective selling Klich now will allow the club to recoup a small amount of money with there still 18 months left on his current deal at Elland Road.

This does feel like the beginning of the end for a number of senior players at Elland Road with Luke Ayling and Adam Forshaw also looking likely to depart the club.

All three have been immense over a number of years, but for the club to progress forward a young and more energetic group of players is required.
